Compliance Engineer

Engineering - Glasgow

Ref: 120Wednesday 22 July 2026

COMPETITIVE

Engineering excellence isn't just about keeping equipment running - it's about ensuring every engineering activity is carried out safely, consistently, and in full compliance with the standards that protect people, assets, and the business. The strongest manufacturing organisations don't treat compliance as a box-ticking exercise; they embed governance, quality, and accountability into every maintenance activity, engineering decision, and operational process. By building robust engineering systems and maintaining audit-ready practices, they create safer workplaces, improve asset reliability, and drive long-term operational performance.

As a Compliance Engineer, you'll play a vital role in supporting our engineering function, ensuring engineering activities, maintenance operations, and assets consistently meet regulatory requirements, internal standards, and industry best practice. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Health & Safety, and Quality teams, you'll help strengthen compliance, improve engineering governance, and support a culture of continuous improvement across our sites.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll combine your engineering knowledge, attention to detail, and collaborative approach to help ensure our engineering systems remain compliant, effective, and ready for audit at all times.

In this role you will:

• Support engineering compliance by ensuring engineering activities comply with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, ISO management systems, and internal engineering governance standards

• Interpret engineering regulations and industry standards, helping translate compliance requirements into practical engineering procedures, maintenance activities, and operational practices

• Support the planning and delivery of internal and external compliance audits, acting as a key engineering contact while ensuring corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented, monitored, and closed

• Develop, review, and maintain engineering procedures, policies, controlled documentation, asset registers, and compliance records, ensuring full traceability and audit readiness

• Support the identification and assessment of engineering compliance risks across equipment, facilities, and maintenance activities, implementing appropriate mitigation measures and control strategies

• Ensure preventative maintenance compliance programmes are effectively managed within the CMMS, maintaining accurate records and ensuring engineering documentation remains current and complete

• Analyse engineering, maintenance, and compliance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement, helping strengthen engineering performance and operational reliability

• Coordinate engineering contractors, ensuring compliance requirements are clearly communicated, planned, and delivered while maintaining high standards of contractor governance

• Support engineering competency by providing guidance on compliance requirements, assisting with training programmes, and maintaining engineering competency and compliance records across the team

You're someone who understands that engineering compliance is about much more than meeting regulatory requirements - it's about protecting people, supporting operational excellence, and ensuring engineering standards are consistently maintained across every aspect of the business.

• You have demonstrable experience within an engineering compliance, maintenance, or operational engineering environment, ideally supporting multiple sites or complex engineering operations

• You possess a strong understanding of engineering compliance frameworks, regulatory requirements, ISO management systems, and engineering governance principles

• You have experience supporting internal and external audits, managing non-conformances, and helping deliver effective corrective and preventive actions

• You are confident developing, reviewing, and maintaining engineering procedures, controlled documentation, asset registers, and engineering records

• You have experience carrying out engineering risk assessments and implementing practical solutions to improve compliance and reduce operational risk

• You demonstrate excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail

• You communicate confidently with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders at all levels, building positive working relationships and promoting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement

• You are proficient in engineering systems, including CMMS platforms, and have strong IT skills with the ability to manage engineering compliance data effectively

• You hold, or are working towards, Engineering Professional Registration, with an HNC in Engineering (or equivalent) preferred. Engineering ISO Internal Auditor certification and a Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH would be highly advantageous

The impact you will have:

You'll play an important role in strengthening engineering compliance, governance, and operational discipline across our engineering function. By supporting audit readiness, maintaining robust engineering documentation, improving maintenance compliance, and helping engineering teams meet the highest regulatory and quality standards, you'll contribute directly to safer operations, improved asset reliability, and stronger business performance.

Working alongside Engineering, Operations, Health & Safety, and Quality teams, your contribution will help build a culture where compliance, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence are embedded into everyday working practices.
