Health and Safety Business Partner

Health and Safety - Paisley, Glasgow

Ref: 142Thursday 8 October 2026

Up to £55,000

Great health and safety is not achieved through compliance alone. It is built through strong leadership, proactive risk management, meaningful engagement with people, and a culture where everyone takes ownership for creating a safe and healthy workplace. By combining expert advice, practical support, robust systems, and continuous improvement, we help ensure that safety is embedded into everything we do.

As a Health & Safety Business Partner, you'll play a key role in supporting Scottish Leather Group's commitment to protecting our people, maintaining legal compliance, and driving a positive health and safety culture across our operations. Working closely with Directors, Managers, Supervisors, Employees, Contractors, Engineering, Human Resources, and external specialists, you'll help influence decision-making, improve performance, and ensure health and safety remains at the heart of our business.

From developing systems and supporting investigations to coaching leaders, analysing performance data, and driving continuous improvement initiatives, your expertise and influence will help create safer workplaces and better outcomes for everyone across the organisation.

In this role you will:

  • Partner with leaders and operational teams to embed health and safety into everyday business activities, decision-making, and strategic planning
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on health and safety legislation, risk management, compliance requirements, and best practice
  • Monitor health and safety performance, analyse trends, prepare reports, and identify opportunities to improve standards and reduce risk
  • Support investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and effective corrective actions are implemented
  • Develop and enhance health and safety management systems, policies, procedures, and initiatives while supporting the ongoing maintenance of ISO 45001 certification
  • Deliver or coordinate training, coaching, communications, and awareness programmes to strengthen understanding and promote a proactive safety culture
  • Support audits, inspections, contractor management processes, risk assessments, and safe systems of work to ensure workplaces remain safe and compliant
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in health, safety, wellbeing, and occupational health performance

You're someone who sees beyond compliance.

You understand that health and safety is about more than policies and procedures. It is about influencing behaviour, building relationships, understanding risk, supporting operational excellence, and creating an environment where people can perform safely every day.

  • You will hold, as a minimum, the requirements for Chartered Membership of IOSH and possess a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent qualification
  • You will have proven experience in a Health & Safety Advisor, Business Partner, or similar role, ideally within a manufacturing or operational environment
  • You will bring a strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, management systems, and best practice, with the ability to apply these effectively across a diverse organisation
  • You will demonstrate excellent communication, coaching, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage confidently at all levels of the business
  • You will have experience investigating incidents, identifying root causes, and supporting sustainable improvements in health and safety performance
  • You will possess strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and communicate meaningful insights through concise reports
  • You will be highly organised, capable of managing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and working independently where required
  • You will demonstrate a proactive approach to continuous improvement, helping leaders and employees identify risks, implement effective controls, and strengthen our health and safety culture

The impact you will have

As a Health & Safety Business Partner, you'll help shape the safety culture of one of the UK's leading manufacturers.

Your work will help ensure our people return home safe every day by supporting compliance, identifying opportunities for improvement, reducing risk, and strengthening health and safety awareness across the organisation.

By partnering with leaders and operational teams, you'll help turn legal requirements and policy expectations into practical actions that improve workplace safety, wellbeing, and operational performance. You'll influence decision-making, support positive change, and help ensure health and safety remains a core part of how we work.

Through your contribution, you'll help create an environment where safety is everyone's responsibility, risk is proactively managed, and continuous improvement drives sustainable success.

What's in it for you?

You'll benefit from a comprehensive rewards package designed to support your wellbeing, financial security, and career development. This includes a company pension, life assurance, company sick pay, enhanced annual leave that increases with service, and access to a health and wellbeing programme alongside an Employee Assistance Programme with private GP services. You'll also have opportunities to grow through coaching, training, and development support, plus practical perks such as cycle to work and electric vehicle schemes, free on-site parking, and access to a range of retail discounts.

We believe our strength comes from our people. We value diversity, encourage development, and create an environment where everyone can thrive.
