Successful engineering projects don't just happen - they're built through collaboration, careful planning, technical expertise, and a relentless focus on safety, quality, and delivery. The strongest manufacturing organisations understand that every improvement project is an opportunity to enhance reliability, increase operational efficiency, and create lasting value for the business. By combining strong project management with engineering excellence, they deliver solutions that improve assets, support people, and strengthen long-term business performance.
As a Project Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering engineering projects that improve our operations, assets, and manufacturing capability. Working alongside the Senior Project Engineer and collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Health & Safety, Quality, Compliance, and Reliability teams, you'll support the delivery of projects from initial concept through to commissioning and handover, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This is a hands-on role where you'll combine your engineering knowledge, project management capability, and problem-solving skills to help deliver meaningful improvements across our engineering and manufacturing operations.
In this role you will:
• Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of engineering projects from concept through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with agreed objectives
• Work alongside the Senior Project Engineer to define project scope, objectives, budgets, resource plans, and delivery schedules while providing regular progress updates to key stakeholders
• Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout every stage of project delivery, ensuring projects comply with all health, safety, environmental, and engineering standards
• Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, Compliance, and Reliability teams to deliver projects that improve operational performance, reliability, and asset capability
• Monitor equipment performance and reliability data, identifying opportunities for engineering improvements that increase asset availability, durability, and lifecycle value
• Support structured change management activities, ensuring engineering improvements are effectively planned, implemented, validated, and embedded into operational processes
• Coordinate internal engineering teams and external contractors, ensuring work is safely planned, effectively communicated, and delivered to agreed timescales and quality standards
• Support the procurement of equipment, materials, and engineering services by working collaboratively with stakeholders to define project requirements and technical specifications
• Participate in project risk assessments, identifying potential technical and operational risks while implementing practical mitigation strategies to support successful delivery
• Monitor project performance against agreed cost, quality, and timeline objectives, supporting accurate reporting and effective project governance
• Maintain project documentation and change control records in accordance with quality management systems, ensuring full traceability throughout the project lifecycle
• Support commissioning, testing, validation, and handover activities, ensuring completed projects meet user requirements and operational expectations
• Contribute to continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, sharing best practice, and supporting the ongoing development of project delivery standards across the engineering function
You're someone who understands that successful engineering projects are about far more than delivering on time and within budget - they're about creating safer, more reliable operations while building strong relationships, solving problems, and delivering sustainable improvements that make a lasting difference.
• You have demonstrable experience within an engineering project environment, ideally supporting the delivery of capital or operational improvement projects across manufacturing or multi-site operations
• You possess a strong understanding of engineering project management principles, project planning methodologies, and structured project delivery
• You have experience supporting engineering projects throughout the full lifecycle, from initial concept and planning through to commissioning, validation, and handover
• You understand engineering asset management principles and have experience identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and lifecycle performance
• You are confident working collaboratively across multiple engineering disciplines, building positive relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers
• You demonstrate excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate project activities, and maintain exceptional attention to detail
• You are a proactive problem solver, capable of assessing project risks, identifying practical solutions, and adapting to changing project requirements
• You possess strong communication and influencing skills, enabling you to engage effectively with colleagues at all levels while supporting a 'One Team' approach to project delivery
• You are comfortable working with project budgets, CAPEX business cases, engineering documentation, and project reporting systems
• You hold, or are working towards, Engineering Professional Registration, with qualifications such as PRINCE2, APM, or PMP highly desirable. An HNC, HND, or Degree in Engineering is preferred, alongside a Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH
